Are you looking for a peaceful escape in the Piney Woods?  Bastrop State Park may have something for you.  Nestled in the heart of Central Texas, this park offers outdoor adventures, rich history, and charming campsites. 

Bastrop State Park’s history dates back to the Civilian Conservation Corps era in the 1930s, when the park was developed as part of the New Deal programs aimed at providing jobs and public works during the Great Depression. The park was officially opened in 1937, and many of the structures still standing today—such as the iconic stone bridges, cabins, and the park headquarters—were built by CCC workers.

What to do at the park

Bastrop State Park is home to several well-maintained trails that offer diverse experiences. Check out the trails map HERE.  There are many opportunities to combine trails and create a big loop.

The park is home to Lake Mena, perfect for fishing. It’s an ideal spot for anglers of all levels.  If you’re hoping to swim, make your way to the pool which is open seasonally.  Reservations required.

Bastrop State Park is a hotspot for birdwatching.  The park’s diverse habitats attract a wide range of bird species. Birdwatchers can spot species like the orange-crowned warbler, red-shouldered hawks, and great blue heron.

If you’re looking to stay, Bastrop State Park offers both cabin and camping options.  They have a range of historic CCC-era cabins available to rent.  These rustic stone cottages are perfect for families.  The park also has RV sites  with full hookups.  Some of the RV campsites offer close access to the park’s trails.
