Lake Meredith National Recreation Area is a beautiful destination located in the Texas Panhandle, near the town of Fritch, and just north of Amarillo. The area is managed by the National Park Service and offers a variety of recreational opportunities centered around Lake Meredith, a large reservoir on the Canadian River.

Swim, Kayak, or Paddleboard at Spring Canyon

The lake’s waters in Spring Canyon are typically clear and inviting, making it a good place to swim. However, always check for any advisories or safety warnings before swimming, as conditions can change.  Spring Canyon is well-suited for kayaking and paddleboarding. The calm waters and scenic views provide a pleasant paddling experience. It’s a great way to enjoy some tranquility.

Camp at Sanford-Yake

RV camping is available in the Sanford-Yake area of the park.  There are 10 sites with water and electric hook ups.  All sites sit up above the lake with no water access from the site.  Make a reservation HERE.  All other sites  in Sanford-Yake and throughout the rest of the park are on a first-come, first-serve basis and are free.

Attend a Special Event at Fritch Fortress

Catch a late night movie or go to a Star Party at Fritch Fortress.  Check the Calendar for these special events.

Hike at Harbor Bay

Harbor Bay features several trails that offer varying levels of difficulty. The terrain can range from flat, easy walks to more challenging, hilly paths. The trails often provide great views of the lake and the surrounding landscape.  The 8-mile Harbor Bay Trail is one of the most popular.  You’ll have views of Fritch Canyon and Lake Meredith on this hike.
