Some would say, Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Texas is the best in the state. It’s the second largest canyon in the country! Once you pass the entrance gate, you’re hit with an immediate, incredible view. Switchbacks take you down into the canyon and to all this park has to offer. We’ll focus on camping for now.
This park has a variety of camping options. They have water and electric sites, tent sites, equestrian sites, and backpacking sites. There is something for everyone. In the RV sites, they have 30/50 amp options, pull thru and back-sites, and a dump station. We stayed in the Juniper camp area and were so impressed with the sites. They were nicely paved, fairly level, and even had some privacy. You can make reservations 5 months in advance HERE. They also had the biggest spiders I’ve even seen in the my life. When you can see them from your vehicle as you’re driving in…they’re BIG! Besides the spiders, we would highly recommend camping in any area at Palo Duro. Hopefully, we will be back again soon to explore more of this park. It is a true beauty.
