At the Bottom

We arrived at this New Mexico National Monument on our way home from Yellowstone National Park.  We love taking some time out from driving and seeing some incredible views.  This monument has RV parking which was great for us since we had our travel trailer in tow.  When we walked into the Visitor Center, we knew the kids wanted to do ONE thing…get a Jr Ranger Badge.  The National Park Service does an incredible job with engaging and educating kids with the Junior Ranger program. The kids got their books and set off to earn their badge.  In addition to Jr Ranger options, the visitor center has information about the Volcano and the area.  It’s worth a look inside.

At the Top

Before you get to that great view at the top, you have to travel up the volcano road.  They have some major restrictions so be aware.  No trailer or tow vehicle allowed.  They allow you to unhitch and leave your trailer or vehicle in the parking lot, but you can’t take it up the road.  Also, anything over 26 feet in length and 8 feet in width isn’t allowed either.  If you’ve got a large RV you may be out of luck.  Hopefully you’re towing a vehicle and can take that up to the top.  You don’t want to miss it.  Once you get to the top, you can take in the beautiful views and even walk down into the volcano.  Get information from the Visitor Center before you head up and then explore this amazing place.  It’s a great stop.
